The Trail Run Compass features a predominantly transparent face, enhancing the user's map visibility. Its back baseplate is skillfully bevelled at the corners, ensuring a comfortable fit in the palm and reducing distractions. Additionally, this design element minimizes weight, allowing for unhindered movement.

Equipped with a convenient wrist lanyard, the compass can be worn around the arm, freeing up the user's hands for other essential gear and tasks during the activity. The use of lightweight materials ensures that the compass remains featherlight, preventing any sense of burden on the wearer that could impact confidence, performance, and focus. Included with the compass is a separate Scale card, facilitating easy and efficient route mapping on the map.

One of the standout features of the Silva Compass is the Silva 1-2-3 System, a straightforward three-step navigation guide. Firstly, the user positions the compass on the map, aligning the Base Plate edge with their current location and desired destination. Next, they adjust the compass heading by rotating the Dial until the "N" aligns with Magnetic North (MN) on the map. Finally, the compass is lifted from the map and held level in front of the user, with the direction of travel arrow pointing straight ahead. By aligning the red end of the Needle with the Orienting Arrow and the "N" on the dial, the Direction of Travel Arrow accurately indicates the destination.
